The 2010 US Open for USA Table Tennis will be held June 29 – July 3 at the DeVos Place (303 Monroe Ave NW, Grand Rapids, MI). The tournament is the largest table tennis competition in North America and features hundreds of top rated players from across the globe including the U.S., Canada, China, Guatemala, Hong Kong, India, Ecuador, the Barbados, Japan, Senegal and the Philippines.

USA Table Tennis announced Friday that the West Michigan Sports Commission and the city of Grand Rapids, Mich., have been awarded the 2010 U.S. Table Tennis Open scheduled for June 30-July 3. The U.S. Open, the oldest table tennis event in the United States, awards trophies and prize money in nearly 60 event divisions from 8-80 years and attracts more than 600 athletes.

The USTA announced that the Grand Rapids Wheelchair Sports Association has been awarded a Program / Project Support Grant.  The grant, in the amount of $3,000, is one of 38 grants awarded by the USTA which total $234,000, to go along with seven Community Partnership Investment Grants which totaled $187,500.

On July 24-26, 2009 top-ranked international wheelchair tennis athletes from the United States, France and Canada, including 17 players from West Michigan, will compete in the Midwest Wheelchair Championships.

The 2009 Grand Haven Beach Vault, an annual pole vaulting competition, will take place July 17-18 on the city beach of Grand Haven, MI next to the Bill Mar Restaurant. Organizers expect to reach and exceed the numbers seen in the previous year when 285 vaulters, from all over the nation and Canada, competed for an estimated crowd of 5,000 family, friends and curious beach goers.

Over the course of two weekends this month, the Greater Grand Rapids area will play host to at least 10 major amateur sporting events. With events ranging from statewide boxing championships to national figure skating championships, the West Michigan Sports Commission estimates 10,000 athletes, fans and spectators will visit the area and contribute as much as $1.8 million in direct spending to hotels, restaurants and businesses across Greater Grand Rapids.
