Amateur Athletic Union Makes it's Mark in West Michigan with Two First-Time Events
The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), the oldest and largest not-for-profit, volunteer based, sports organization in the world has selected West Michigan to host two first time events for our state.
The West Michigan Sports Commission, through a working relationship with the City of Muskegon and Muskegon CVB, will host the AAU National Beach Volleyball - Michigan Championships. This event will occur at Pere Marquette Beach June 28-29 bringing in two person amateur beach volleyball teams for both boy's and girl's separate events ranging in age divisions from 14U / 16U / 18U. Participating teams will be eligible to qualify for the AAU Junior Olympic Games, which will be held July 23 - August 2 in the Greater Detroit area.
July will bring the AAU Girl's Fastpitch Central Region Championships to Huff Park and Northview High School in Grand Rapids July 18-20. Teams will be treated to an opening ceremony at 5/3 Ballpark, home of the West Michigan Whitecaps, followed by two days of competition among five age groups ranging from 10U - 18U. First place teams will be crowned national champions and receive the championship trophy with runner-up teams receiving medals.
AAU is divided into 58 districts and administers up to 34 different sport programs, sanctioning over 15,000 local, district and regional competitions, all of which lead to 250 national championships. |
